Posters

I need to buy posters to decorate Gianni’s room. I want maximum 3 posters I don’t know which ones yet, but preferably one of a famous female celebrity.

I’m going to do research and check out famous female celebrities in the 90s.

Next, a poster of a famous band. The music in the background will be Nirvana, so as tribute I’ll buy a Nirvana poster.

I need a movie poster, either Pulp Fiction because it’s a movie from the 90s and my favorite or the Breakfast Club. I may use the Breakfast Club because I feel it’s a big impact on all teenagers in any era, although the Breakfast club was really popular in the 80s not 90s. I was also thinking perhaps Fight Club. But don’t quote me on that.

Finally the most important poster is a poster illustrating New York. I need this poster because this will foreshadow the incoming events in the film. I want a poster with the Empire Stare building on it, it will be perfect for Gianni’s room!

I'm trying to find empowerment through organization, so I decided to make a calendar. Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a heavy procrastinator. One of my many faults.

February 15-19: Obtain posters for Gianni's room.

You Oughta Know

Update on the song! $250?!

On the other hand, my friend knows a band and their band name is "The Introverts". They were able to record an instrumental version of the song that I originally wanted for the film, called "All Apologies" by Nirvana. Can't wait to use it for the opening. We keep moving forward!

Conflict

So, the conflict in the story...

I would say the problem in the story, is Gianni and his teen angst.

He's always felt like he doesn't belong and so that causes him to act out and be impulsive.

Now, that he found out about his biological father, it's sort of an excuse for him to act out. It's not that he has this desire to meet his real dad, he's doing this because he believes if he does, he'll finally understand who he is.

Gianni needs to come to terms that he's growing up. During his travel, he realizes this. He also realizes that he doesn't need validation from adults to tell him who really is. Only he knows, who he really is.

Foreshadowing

In order to foreshadow, I plan to have a poster that illustrates New York, since Gianni will be traveling to New York to meet his long lost father.

In addition, during Gianni's monologue I plan to have him talk about his struggle trying to find his individuality and how he feels like he doesn't fit in, since those are themes that his story will deal with.

World

I want my opening to begin in Gianni's bedroom with Gianni laying on his bed. The opening of my film will take place in the 1990s, so 90s music will be used.

During the 1990s, grunge was the wave that's why I plan to have the characters wear grunge, baggy clothing.

I plan to buy posters or print some images out of popular things such as music or movies, that were popular during the 1990s to establish the year the film is taking place. Many teens in the 1990s, would put up posters of their favorite bands, movies, or celebrities. I noticed that many rooms in the 90s, there will be contrasts between dark and bright colors, which is what I plan to.

Technology was still developing in the 90s, so there will be practically be little to no traces of technology.

Tone

I never stopped to think about the tone of "What's Eating the Runaways?". Hmm, let's see...

Tone is basically the vibe of the film or the personality it has. Tone is how it makes the audience feel.

I want audiences to feel uplifted and emotional. I want them to feel for Gianni.

So tone is determined by lighting, exposure and art direction.

For lighting, I want to be bright. I want everything to be clear. I don't want anything to go unnoticed by the audience.

For exposure, I plan to sometimes use dark contrasts to emphasize that something is wrong and then shift to bright lighting to illuminate the scene.

As for art direction... art direction can be established by props to costumes. I think it would be a good idea to have Gianni wear dark, baggy clothing to contrast the lighting or tone of the film. The costumes and props used will have some dark/mellow undertones.

The lovely Gianni

Finally! I get to focus all my attention on "What's Eating the Runaways?".

Let's start with the main character, Gianni.

Gianni is quite impulsive, but very compassionate. His favorite subject is literature, and he sticks to his ideals. He cares for his family, especially his little brother-Lucas. He would do anything for him.

He loves his mother, but sometimes he gets mad at her because she is unable to make decisions for herself. He always knew there was something wrong with his family, especially with his "father". Gianni always found that he never had anything in common, with this man and always found it suspicious. Both of them were drastically different, so he never bonded with him. He finds out that his mom has been lying to him about who his father is. Gianni believed that the man that has been living with them, ever since he was a chid isn't really his dad. He is not biologically related to him in anyway. His real dad is in New York.

Gianni is furious that his mother has lied to him for the past 19 years, and so because he is as impulsive as he comes, he decides to take him and his little brother to New York and find his real father. Gianni feels that if he accomplishes this, he will find out who he really is and discover something about himself, he never knew.

To establish that Gianni is impulsive and that he is trying to find his identity, I want the opening of the film to start with a little voice-over monologue. I want the monologue to portray his teen-angst and hunger for something new.

He is of Italian descent, but is unaware of this because his biological father that is Italian is estranged from Gianni. He wears grungy clothes and likes to take walks around the neighborhood to clear his head. The people of his town are very weary of him, because he's quiet and keeps to himself. He comes across as very intimidating, so he doesn't have many friends. He's fine with that though, as long as ha has himself and his little brother, all is right in the world.

Gianni has a deep appreciation for music, so when he finds out that his biological dad is a musical artist he jumps at the chance to meet him. When he meets him, well...let's just say that Gianni should've made his expectations low.

Farewell...
